Our Isle of Man office first opened its doors in December of 2012. In just five short years, the office headcount now stands at a phenomenal 117. Today, we’ve taken a quick time out with Charlotte Cain, who works in the HR department, on exactly what it takes to join the team at Derivco Isle of Man.
Hello Charlotte! Give us a quick introduction about yourself…
I’m Charlotte! I work in the small (but mighty!) HR team at Derivco. I’ve worked in recruitment for just under 6 years, with experience in recruiting across multiple industries. I joined Derivco in November 2015, and I’ve loved it ever since.
So what roles are you currently recruiting for on the Island?
Ok where to start! We are always looking for IT Software Engineers, and we have vacancies in all product areas including our Sportsbook, Quickfire, Banking and Casino Platforms teams. We are also currently recruiting for two Resource Planners, who will provide a support function to our teams.
What does the ideal IT Software Engineer look like?
An ideal candidate will have experience in providing technical support for software applications and specifically Microsoft SQL. They will love to troubleshoot and resolve highly complex issues, whilst providing excellent customer service. We want somebody with strong communication skills, and who works well in a collaborative, team environment. There’s also nothing more refreshing than someone who is passionate about their career, with a desire to learn about new technologies and develop themselves personally. A good sense of humour is a massive plus, we’re a funny bunch in the office 😊
What surprised you the most about Derivco when you joined?
I had no idea there was such a hub of technical expertise hidden away on the Island, it’s honestly fascinating! And everybody is so lovely here. It really is a great place to work.
What’s been the most memorable moment for you since joining Derivco?
There’s been a few! One that stands out for me is when we won the Isle of Man Government’s Freedom to Flourish Award at the Newspaper’s Awards for Excellence in November 2016. The morning after the awards, everyone was beaming with pride in the office. It was a great feeling! So that’s definitely up there. And I think hitting the 100th employee milestone in February this year, which we’ve already smashed as we’re now standing strong at 117!
And finally, if the ideal candidate is reading this interview, why should they take the leap and come and work for Derivco?
I think they need to ask themselves why not really! If not for the incredible benefits package, perhaps the promise of continual personal development and learning will seal the deal? At Derivco, IT isn’t seen as simply a cost centre which is often the case in larger corporate organisations. We eat, sleep and breathe IT, and we invest heavily in our people, our technologies and our software. We also have an incredible internal culture, we celebrate everything and there’s always cake in the office. So consider no more, and send me your CV!
